Bluster Falls residents were taken by surprise this week as an unexpected wave of warm weather brought what local meteorologists are calling “Sprummer”—a blend of spring and summer weather in October. Temperatures are reaching the mid-80s (unusual for the region this time of year), and locals are switching out sweaters for swimsuits.
Experts suggest a rare atmospheric phenomenon known as the Equatorial Drift could be to blame. “Essentially, warm air from the equator took a detour north,” explained meteorologist Jenna Nimbus from the National Weather Anomalies Bureau. “This could last a few days, or even into next week, depending on wind patterns.”
While some residents are thrilled, local businesses are scrambling to adjust. Stores are reporting a run on sunscreen and sunglasses, and the town pool—which had just been closed for the season—is reopening for an impromptu “Sprummer Splash” event. However, allergists are warning that the sudden warmth is causing a second wave of pollen, so allergy sufferers should keep tissues close at hand.
Despite the warm spell, Nimbus advises residents to be cautious about early blooms and lingering bugs. “Nature’s getting a mixed message,” she joked. “But don’t pack away your coats just yet—autumn is likely to make a comeback soon.”
